A dimmer uses an electronic circuit to regulate the amount of average power applied to a load.
Lower "average" power = Lower light intensity at the lamp
Higher "average" power = Higher light intensity at the lamp
Most dimmers use a "wave chopping" technique known as "phase angle control" to effect dimming control over a lamp. There are two main types of phase control, Leading Edge and Trailing Edge.
Currently CIS manufactures dimmers for both methods in standard ranges, 2000, C2000, Heritage, Slimline, Elipse.
Clipsal C-Bus DIN Rail dimmers now have different models to suit;
- Leading Edge, L5504D2 / L5504D2A
- UNIVERSAL ( Leading or Trailing Edge ), L5504D2U
