StarServe Packs Contractor Series Common Components
Installers Guide and Options Archive - Deleted StarServe
StarServe allows you to centrally locate phone and entertainment services within your home. Product can be bought individually or in pre-designed packs. Due to different customer requirements Video Modulators are not included in "packs".
Depending upon the size of the Starserve enclosure ( 3 sizes available ), you can locate all of these services centrally to provide-
> Video to other televisions in your house
> Telephone services > Ethernet Data services
Video
By purchasing a 1, 2 or 4 source input "Video modulator" and locating it in your "media source" room, you can connect devices such as CCTV cameras, DVD players, VCR's into your StarServe video system.
The modulator is connected back to the Video Hub Unit ( VDU ) via a coaxial cable. The modulator allows you to program these input sources to a specific channel ( UHF frequency ) and broadcast the video signal to all televisions on your StarServe system.
Telephone
Starserve allows a true "Patching" system for your telephones. Up to eight locations can be pre-wired for your telephones, allowing you to move your telephones around the house as required.
Due to the Telstra Australia specified REN ( Ring Equivalence Number ) limitation, there is a maximum number of telephones or telephony devices that can be connected to 1 phone line, this includes devices such as answering machines or dial-up type computer modems. Each of these devices typcially has an AUSTEL certification sticker on it listing its REN value, the REN on each device must then be added together, to find how many of these devices can be connected tp the telephone line.
A maximum total REN permissable on any 1 telephone line = 3 REN.
Ethernet - Data
StarServe supports a standard CAT5 100MB data wiring method and allows for "data patching". The StarServe data patching module allows for either data wiring standard, 568A or 568B, these wiring standard connections are listed on the rear of the Data Patching Module.
ADSL Internet
It is recommeneded if providing ADSL type Internet connectivity to your whole network that a combined ADSL modem/router/hub be used and that all computers are networked back to the ADSL hub. This will allow for all computers to access the internet independently. Individual firewall and virus protection may be required on each computer, please consult your installer on this.
