CIS products and Microsoft Windows Vista
Summary
Clipsal software is tested on a range of operating systems including Windows Vista.
The software operates and is supported on Vista, however it is not compliant with all of the requirements for Vista and is not expected to be fully compliant until at least late 2009.
More Information
Microsoft released Vista, the newest version of its Windows operating system, in January 2007. This is the most significant change to the Windows operating system since 1995 (11 years ago).
The growing emergence of security concerns, and the fast paced growth of computer connectivity, means that the new Windows Vista is more restrictive to software products than earlier Windows operating systems.
In spite of the changes in Windows Vista, current Clipsal software will run satisfactorily.
Clipsal have long term plans in place to migrate software to full Vista compliance.
The planned Vista changes fall into two main categories:
1. All current user data & project files will be moved to a new location (away from c:\clipsal). A migration tool is expected to be used to allow this. In addition a number of other changes are requried to allow software to find projects in the new locations.
2. Changes to Windows Vista's hardware driver model means that current hardware drivers will have to be certified.
These changes will also apply to other operating systems, meaning that when the changes are made, all software products on all operating systems will be affected.
There are no plans to update deprecated or unsupported software should they be found to work incorrectly in Windows Vista. It is recommended that all users upgrade to the current versions of our products.
